What is yoga?
Yoga is an ancient practice that originated in India over 5,000 years ago. It is a holistic approach to physical, mental, and spiritual well-being, and is based on the belief that the body and mind are interconnected.
The word "yoga" comes from the Sanskrit word "yuj," which means "to unite." The goal of yoga is to unite the mind, body, and spirit, and to achieve balance and harmony in the body.
The history of yoga is closely tied to the development of Buddhism and Hinduism in ancient India. The earliest written records of yoga date back to the Upanishads, a collection of texts that are considered to be the foundation of Hinduism. Yoga was also an important part of the spiritual practices of Buddhism.
In the last century, yoga has become increasingly popular in Western countries as a form of exercise and stress relief. Yoga is now practiced by people of all ages and fitness levels, and is widely recognized for its many health benefits.
